COLLINS, Miss. (WDAM) – Covington County Hospital is committed to a new way of helping Pine Belt residents stay healthy.
The hospital has opened a new center called Covington Fitness.
The new fitness center can be funded at Snap Fitness’ old location and has been open for a few months.
Anyone can become a member.
And some seniors can train for free if they’re part of the Silver Sneakers program.
This is offered by some Medicare Advantage plans and pays for the gym membership.
“Now not all (health plans) participate, and some do, but you can contact our fitness center and they will verify that your particular Medicare Advantage is a member of Silver Sneakers,” said Mike Williamson, director of Covington County Hospital . therapy services.
“There are other programs out there that we’re looking at to try and expand that coverage for our community.”
Williamson says that people who want to enroll in a fitness program should first get their doctor’s approval.
